Flock is made by Karol Jaworski ("we"). This policy explains what leaves your device when you use Flock, who receives it and why. Questions: karoljaworsky@gmail.com.
What you enter in Flock is stored on your device. If iCloud is turned on for the app, it is also synced to your private iCloud account, which Apple operates and we cannot access.
Ask Flock (5 free answers to try it, then part of Flock Pro) sends one of two things: the question you type in Ask Flock, exactly as typed and one question at a time, or, when you tap Ask Flock on a species page, that species’ common and scientific name, with a fixed instruction text written by Flock. Your location is never sent: not your GPS position and not the town and state saved with your sightings. Neither are your sightings, life list, year list, counts, dates, notes, photos, outings or your Apple Account. If you mention a place or a person in a question, that text is sent as you typed it. Flock asks before the first request and sends nothing until you tap Allow; you can switch Ask Flock off at any time in Profile > Preferences > Ask Flock (AI). It goes to xAI (Grok), which writes the answer.
Requests pass through our server, hosted on Cloudflare, which forwards them without storing their content. We don't add your Apple ID or email address to these requests, and we don't keep copies of them. The provider processes each request under its own privacy policy: xAI (Grok). Please don't enter information you wouldn't want to share with the AI provider.
We process this because you asked for it and allowed it (GDPR art. 6(1)(a) and (b)); you can withdraw your permission at any time in Profile > Preferences > Ask Flock (AI).
If you sign in with Apple, Apple gives the app an anonymous identifier and, only if you choose to share them, your name and email address. They stay on your device (and in your iCloud if sync is on); we don't run an account server.
Purchases in Flock are processed by Apple. We use RevenueCat to keep track of your subscription status; RevenueCat receives the purchase records Apple provides and an app user ID, never your name or the content you store in the app. RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
If you ask Apple for a refund of a purchase made in Flock, Apple may ask us for information about that purchase. By making a purchase, you consent to us (through RevenueCat) sharing the following with Apple for that request: how long you have had the app, how much of the purchased period has been used, whether the purchase was delivered, and the total amount you have spent and been refunded in Flock. We may also tell Apple whether we think the refund should be granted. Apple makes the final decision. We never share the content you store in the app.
Flock contains no analytics or advertising SDKs. We do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not sell your data or share it for advertising.
Flock is not directed at children under 13.
You can delete the data on your device by deleting the app and data synced to iCloud from iOS Settings → your name → iCloud. If you are in the EU, UK or a similar jurisdiction, you have the right to access, correct, delete and move your data, to object to its processing, and to complain to your data protection authority. To exercise any of these rights, email karoljaworsky@gmail.com.
We update this page whenever what Flock sends changes; the date at the top shows the current version.
