Karol Jaworski ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Butter mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App. Please read this policy carefully. By using Butter, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Butter has no accounts and no sign-in. Most of what you tell it stays on your phone. What leaves it, and why, is listed below.

Butter uses Grok, an AI model developed by xAI, to plan dinners and breakfasts. When your week is planned or a dinner is swapped, your household as counts and children's ages, your food preferences, routine, kitchen, budget, store and country are sent through our server to xAI to write the recipes. This data is used only to plan your meals and is subject to xAI's Privacy Policy.
Butter relies on the following services:
Data on your phone stays until you delete the app. A shared household's data stays on our server while anyone is in the household; when the last person leaves, the household and everything it shared are deleted. Device verification records and usage counts are kept so the free allowance stays fair. You can ask us to delete any of it at any time (see Section 12).
If you are located in the EEA, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation, including the right to data portability, the right to restrict processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Our legal basis for processing is the performance of our service to you (planning and sharing your meals) and our legitimate interest in preventing abuse of the service.
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of your data, and opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell your personal information.
Butter is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Parents may enter a child's first name and age so portions and dinners suit the household; this stays within the household's data, and only the age, never the name, is used to plan meals. Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own when using the services above (for example Supabase and xAI). These services maintain appropriate data protection safeguards in compliance with applicable regulations.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this page and, where appropriate, through an in-app notification. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
